The latest figures released by the National Health Directorate indicate that Luxembourg has passed the peak of the flu epidemic.
Between 17 and 23 February 2025, the number of influenza cases reported by laboratories dropped from 1,630 to 1,166, representing a 28% decrease compared to the previous week. While infections remain common among children, the National Health Directorate stated that the decline in case numbers over the past three weeks confirms that the peak of the epidemic is now behind the country.
During the most recent reporting period, 38% of cases were identified as influenza A, while 62% were classified as influenza B. Among the influenza A virus samples analysed, the subtypes detected were A(H1)pdm9 (44.1%) and A(H3) (55.9%).
In addition, the number of confirmed cases of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) decreased by 27%, falling from 174 the previous week to 127. RSV infections primarily affect the youngest and oldest age groups, including young children and individuals over 80 years old.
The data also show a continued decline in SARS-CoV-2 cases, with positive results dropping from 55 to 42–a 24% reduction compared to the prior week.
In addition to vaccination, the National Health Directorate recommends the following measures to limit the spread of respiratory viruses:
