The main opposition figure to Nicolas Maduro since the controversial 2018 elections, Juan Guaidó officially declared himself the interim president of Venezuela on 23 January.

Since then, Guaidó has been recognised as the interim president by a number of countries, including the USA. Following on from France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, Luxembourg is the latest country to offer its support to the opposition figure.

In a press release, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean Asselborn declared that the presidential elections of 20 May 2018 were neither free nor regulated and called for Guaidó to organise another presidential election.
