EducationLuxembourg, future world champion of philosophy?

RTL Today
Thirty young people took part Friday in the selections for an international competition of philosophy! A first in Luxembourg.

We already knew the Olympics of mathematics, physics, biology ... But this is the first time that Luxembourg mobilizes the budding thinkers of the country to participate in this 27th edition of the " International Philosophy Olympiad”!

The first step dates back to last autumn, when high schools across the country were encouraged to select two students to represent their school. This Friday in Walferdange, nearly 30 high school students aged 17 to 20 from 17 high schools in the country, participated in a test to determine who will be able to take part in the grand final that will run from 16 to 19 next May in Rome.

As one teacher explains in the video, “there were three open questions today, stemming from the three philosophical fields treated during the first program, namely epistemology, political philosophy and ethics ". “Quite simple” questions were given by the pupils and revolved around the theme of “identity” ... A subject that often agitates Luxembourg!

The purpose of these Olympiads, as this teacher explains, is to show that “there are many students interested in philosophy and that it is not a dusty discipline”.

Let us hope to represent the Grand Duchy brilliantly!
