Luxembourg's foreign minister, Xavier Bettel, has published posts on X criticising the behaviour of Israeli national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, who was filmed taunting members of the Global Sumud Flotilla while they were handcuffed and on their knees.

The video, posted on social media by Ben-Gvir, led to global outcry on Thursday, with numerous states calling for sanctions on the minister for his treatment of the activists.

Bettel wrote that Ben-Gvir's behaviour was "unacceptable" and said Luxembourg would continue to push for the EU to take "appropriate measures" in response to the Israeli government's handling of the situation.

The Luxembourg residents who were detained by Israel as part of the flotilla heading to Gaza are now on their way home, according to a press release issued by the organisers. They are due to arrive in Istanbul at 5pm on Thursday and are likely to return to Luxembourg on Friday or Saturday. The activisits have called upon the Luxembourgish government to demand consequences for Israel's actions.
