As announced in recent weeks, the Grand Ducal police will increase patrols around the winter markets and public transport in Luxembourg City in the run-up to Christmas. These measures form part of their usual security checks to prevent crime, as well as part of larger operations.
In the afternoon of Wednesday 17 December, a specific operation was launched to increase police presence on board public transport in the capital. 12 agents were deployed to conduct checks at tram stops, as well as around multiple Christmas markets.
According to the police, this type of intervention serves to increase visibility of the police force, as well as discouraging delinquent behaviour. They hope to guarantee a safe environment for the high numbers of visitors expected over the festive period.

Alongside the patrols, the police issued a reminder of the importance of individual vigilance, as Christmas markets and public transport are prime locations for pickpockets. Authorities recommend that the public take great care in keeping their personal belongings safe, closing bags, and paying attention to their environment, particularly in busy areas.
These reinforced checks will continue until the Christmas market period is over. The police also ask members of the public to report any suspicious behaviour and to check official police communications to stay informed of security measures and prevention tips.
