The initiative, titled Warm Her Courage, was discussed on The Sam Steen Show this week with Inna Yaremenko from the Luxembourg-based non-profit organisation LUkraine.
The campaign focuses on providing essential winter equipment for women currently serving in the armed forces of Ukraine. Around 70,000 women are now in active service, many of whom were doctors, teachers, engineers, writers, mothers and daughters before the war. As Inna explained during the interview, the Ukrainian army was not originally equipped for such a large number of women, particularly when it comes to properly-fitted uniforms and winter gear.
High quality winter jackets, trousers, tactical uniform, and boots are crucial for safety and protection in harsh conditions. Donations made through Warm Her Courage help fund this equipment, all of which is produced in Ukraine and delivered directly to those who need it most.
A central part of the initiative is the support of Luxembourg’s Directorate of Defence, which has committed to matching every donation made during the campaign. This means each contribution is doubled, significantly increasing its impact.
Luxembourg’s Minister of Defence, Yuriko Backes, highlighted the importance of the campaign, saying:
“Luxembourg stands with the women defending Ukraine. Together, we give them strength, protection, and hope.”
In addition to matching donations, Luxembourg Defence has confirmed further support for the initiative. The Directorate of Defence will offer a unique experience to the campaign’s most generous individual private donor: an exclusive tour in the new Command Liaison and Reconnaissance Vehicle (CLRV), providing a rare insight into the operations of Luxembourg’s armed forces.
During the interview, Inna also noted that Warm Her Courage offers an alternative way to give at Christmas. Donations can be made in place of traditional gifts, with contributors receiving confirmation of their support and the reassurance that their money is going directly towards practical and immediate aid.

LUkraine has confirmed that the first transfers of donations have already been sent, ensuring that support is reaching Ukrainian women without delay. The organisation’s broader mission is to deliver humanitarian aid, amplify Ukrainian voices internationally, promote Ukraine’s sovereignty and strengthen ties between Luxembourg and Ukraine, while advocating for freedom, democracy and human rights.
Warm Her Courage is now open, with every donation matched by Luxembourg’s Directorate of Defence. Further details about the campaign, the equipment being funded and how to contribute are available via LUkraine’s official platforms.
As the Christmas period approaches, the initiative offers a meaningful way for people in Luxembourg to show solidarity and provide real support to women defending Ukraine and wider European security.
