The Luxembourg police confirmed on Sunday that they are investigating a fire involving vehicles belonging to the National Roads Authority, as well as a fire in Bridel.
Residents in the Bertrange area reported hearing loud explosions on Saturday afternoon, followed by thick black smoke visible for kilometres. Police confirmed that a fire had broken out at a National Roads Authority site on Rue du Chemin de Fer shortly after 5pm.
Upon arrival, emergency services found the blaze had already spread to multiple lorries. Firefighters quickly contained the fire, but not before five lorries and a trailer were completely destroyed. An additional lorry and three cars sustained damage. No injuries were reported. The public prosecutor’s office has enlisted forensic police to determine the cause.
Earlier that day, just after midday, another fire was reported on Rue de Luxembourg in Bridel. The blaze began in the gardens of two homes but did not reach the houses themselves. However, intense heat caused the roof of a neighbouring property to catch fire.
Firefighters brought the situation under control swiftly, and no injuries were reported. Despite this, significant property damage occurred. The police technical service is investigating the origin of the fire.
