In 2024, the National Health Fund (CNS) identified 265 fake sick notes that were purchased online linked to approximately 145 insured individuals.
In response, the CNS filed complaints with the public prosecutor’s office in September 2024 and again in January 2025. These details were disclosed by Minister of Health Martine Deprez in her reply to a parliamentary question submitted by the Luxembourg Socialist Workers’ Party (LSAP).
Fines ranging from €200 to €750 have been issued in over 100 cases, and the fraudulent sick notes have been invalidated.
According to Minister Deprez, the issue of fake sick notes only emerged in Luxembourg last year. To combat this growing problem, the CNS has introduced an IT control mechanism.
