Coalition is taking shapeLuc Frieden expects negotiations to conclude next week

RTL Today
Luc Frieden from the Christian Social People's Party (CSV) has announced that this week will be marked by "intensive discussions" as the coalition negotiations between the CSV and the Democratic Party (DP) continue to take shape.

He addressed the press on his own late in the afternoon, shedding light on the ongoing process.

Frieden expressed his expectation that the coalition negotiations will reach their conclusion by the following week. He refrained from delving into specific points of contention or areas of agreement during the press briefing.

Frieden stressed the objective of incorporating a maximum number of elements from both the CSV and DP electoral programmes into the forthcoming coalition agreement. The negotiations, he assured, would be carried out with respect and cooperation, portraying the future government as one infused with “new energy” committed to a people-centric approach to politics.

While focusing on the remaining issues that demand intensive attention, Frieden highlighted the significance of reinforcing purchasing power and boosting activity in the construction sector.

In the coming days, negotiations will continue, with delegation heads Xavier Bettel and Claude Wiseler participating on Tuesday and Wednesday. Frieden will present an interim report to Grand Duke Henri on Wednesday.

Thursday’s schedule remains free, as Acting Prime Minister Xavier Bettel is slated to attend an international conference on the situation in the Middle East.
During this pause, working groups will collaborate on refining documents, potentially culminating in a reunion on Friday in Senningen. The plan is to have the agreement ratified by the parties’ committees next week.

Frieden refrained from disclosing any details on ministerial or post allocations, despite the fact that this aspect is naturally of particular public interest.

After a week’s break, coalition negotiations continued on Monday

The 12 thematic task forces have completed their work, and delegates from both parties will convene at the Senningen Castle from Monday to Wednesday. The focus will shift to analysing the reports produced by the task forces, with the delegations declaring the fight against poverty as their first priority.

Rumours suggest that tax and education policies are the main areas of discussion.
