Luxembourg Socialist Worker’s Party (LSAP) MPs Taina Bofferding, Yves Cruchten, and Franz Fayot have sharply criticised what they describe as the genocidal intent behind Israel’s actions and speak of ethnic cleansing. They accuse the far-right Israeli government of weaponising the blockade of humanitarian aid and condemn the silence of the international community. “Europe is watching – and so is Luxembourg”, the statement reads.

Franz Fayot emphasised the broader implications of failing to uphold international law: “If we let this happen – if we fail to react to violations of international humanitarian law and the legal order that was established after the Second World War, including the breaches of borders in both Palestine and Ukraine – then we, in Europe, can no longer rely on that same framework to protect us. That’s why respecting humanitarian law in Gaza is just as vital as it is in Ukraine, where Europe has shown strong commitment. In our view, this is truly an existential question for Europe.”

The LSAP are also demanding the suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, invoking the clause on respect for human rights. Furthermore, the party is questioning Luxembourg’s continued business dealings with Israeli companies and insists that Minister Bettel must take a stand.

To this end, the LSAP plans to table a motion in the Chamber of Deputies on Wednesday. Ahead of the international conference on a two-state solution set for June, the party is also pushing for a national political debate in the Chamber.
