With the aim of securing two seats in the European Parliament, the LSAP emphasised its dedication to the European project, citing the latest Politmonitor survey results as a source of encouragement. The party’s six candidates outlined their vision during the presentation of the election programme.
Central to the LSAP’s agenda is the call for a more socially just, democratic, sustainable, and secure Europe. The LSAP candidates advocate for adding “a red heart” to the Green Deal and ensuring that everyone is taken on board. They underscored that supporting the LSAP also means endorsing the lead candidate of the European Social Democrats, Nicolas Schmit, potentially positioning a Luxembourg national to lead the EU Commission.
Migration policy is set to emerge as a key topic in the election campaign. The LSAP advocates for a well-organised migration policy, increased legal migration routes, and firmly rejects the outsourcing of migration policy, as seen in the UK and the election manifesto of the European People’s Party (EPP), the parent party of the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV). Marc Angel, LSAP lead candidate and current Vice-President of the European Parliament, stressed that Europe, “the wealthiest continent in the world,” cannot afford to take this stance and must conduct asylum procedures domestically.
In response to their strong performance in the Politmonitor poll, MPs Mars Di Bartolomeo and Liz Braz were questioned about their readiness to accept a mandate if elected. Bartolomeo expressed willingness, affirming that he has been active in politics “for ages” and has “never run for office to avoid being elected.” Braz welcomed the opportunity but expressed reluctance to leave the Chamber of Deputies, noting that the voters would ultimately decide the outcome.
