Following the LSAP’s announcement of its candidate list for the eastern constituency earlier this week, the party’s list for the northern electoral district has now been unveiled. And more than one third of candidates are newcomers.
The team will be led by Minister of Agriculture, Viticulture and Rural Development and Minister of Social Security Claude Haagen, who received around 7,700 votes in the 2018 election. He will be joined as lead candidate by Flore Schank, who will be running at the national level for a first time. Schank is currently second alderwoman in the municipality of Feulen and works with the ombudsman for children’s rights.
MP Carlo Weber has joined the northern constituency list. He received the third-most votes in the 2018 parliamentary election and the most votes in the recent municipal elections. Nevertheless, due to the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV) and the Democratic Party (DP) forming a coalition in Wincrange, he finds himself in the opposition as a councillor.
Former Diekirch Mayor Claude Thill is also part of the list. Newly elected Mayor of Ettelbruck Bob Steichen, however, is not running as he wants to focus on his recent appointment in local politics.
LSAP vice president and Clervaux councillor Tina Koch has also thrown her hat in the race, same as Wiltz councillor Michael Schenk, Boulaide Mayor Jeff Gangler, Claude Besenius from Ettelbruck, and the newly elected Rambrouch councillor Danielle Filbig.
Missing from the 2018 LSAP north team is former minister Romain Schneider, who scored the most votes in the last election with 12,300 ballots cast in his favour.
The goal of the team is to get back to two seats in the Chamber, a result last achieved in the 2013 parliamentary election.
