It was a bitter election night for the Green Party in Differdange last night. Led by outgoing mayor Christiane Brassel-Rausch, the party suffered a significant setback, losing a fifth of the votes and four seats, resulting in their loss of power and relegation to the opposition.
The path is therefore clear for the formation of a grand coalition of the election winners in Differdange. The key question now revolves around who will become the future mayor.
LSAP candidate Guy Altmeisch, with approximately 3,350 votes, is expected to assume the role of mayor, while Tom Ulveling of the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV), who received around 3,150 votes, is likely to become his first alderman.
The outcome points towards an LSAP-CSV coalition, leaving the Green Party, along with the Democratic Party (DP), the Left Party (déi Lénk), and the Pirate Party, in the opposition camp in Differdange.
