The Luxembourg Socialist Workers’ Party (LSAP) has called on the CSV-DP government to take a firm and decisive stance in response to violations of international law, issuing a strongly worded press release on Friday.

The LSAP criticised what it described as the government’s passive approach in the face of actions by the United States and what it called illegal and disproportionate military operations by Israel, arguing that inaction is not a neutral position but a choice in itself.

The party called on Luxembourg to reclaim its political courage, pointing to Spain as an example of a country that consistently and unequivocally defends democratic values and international law. Among the concrete steps demanded are the closure of the Luxembourg Trade and Investment Office in Tel Aviv and the imposition of targeted sanctions against Israel.

Timed ahead of the US visit

The press release was released just before a planned official visit to the United States by the Grand Duke and members of the government. Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel, Tourism Minister Lex Delles and Finance Minister Gilles Roth are all set to accompany the Grand Duke on the trip, which is scheduled to run from 12 to 17 April and will include stops in Colorado Springs, New York and Washington D.C.
