Personally, I try to avoid driving in the city at any cost - partially for fear of other drivers, but largely it comes down to the fact that I’m better at getting lost than most people are at tying their shoes. I’m profoundly good at it, to the point where I would be accused of doping if getting lost was in the Olympics.
London’s taxi drivers, meanwhile, famously have to know the streets inside and out. Before they’re allowed to pick up passengers, they have to pass “the Knowledge,” which Transport for London (TfL) describes as “the world’s toughest taxi test”. And for good reason: you have to know, by heart, thousands of streets and landmarks within a six mile (about 9.5 kilometre) radius of Charing Cross. According to TfL, it typically takes three to four years to do so.
Clearly that alone wasn’t enough of a challenge for Tom Hutley, however, as he’s set out to learn Luxembourg City’s street inside and out too - in just 24 hours.
