27-year-old MPLiz Braz charts her own path in Luxembourg's political arena

RTL Today
Liz Braz, the rising LSAP star and youngest MP to take office this term, aims to champion the causes of younger generations, addressing the housing crisis, the judicial system, healthcare, and digitalisation in the Chamber of Deputies.

In a new series, we will look at all the fresh faces in the Chamber of Deputies, starting with those featured on the ‘list 1' from the Luxembourg Socialist Worker’s Party (LSAP).

Rising star

At 27 years of age, Liz Braz was the youngest MP to take the oath of office on Tuesday. The rising LSAP star ran for a first time in the recent national election and was directly elected to the Chamber of Deputies with 24,300 votes.

Braz grew up in Esch-sur-Alzette where she still lives to this day. After graduating from high school, she studied law for five years and now still ponders the possibility of completing a master’s degree in economics or finance.

The young politician already scored high during the municipal elections earlier this year, receiving the third-most votes in her home town. Together with her five LSAP colleagues on the opposition benches of the Esch council, she intends to ensure that the majority parties will work in the best interest of the local population.

More than a politician’s daughter

Braz entered politics earlier than she had initially planned, this due to her father, Felix Braz from The Greens, suffering a heart attack in 2019. While acknowledging the fact that her family ties certainly facilitated her entry into politics, she refutes the notion that people only voted for her because of her father, citing her two election performances as a testament to her personal conviction.

In the Chamber, the LSAP politician now intends to stand in for younger generations. Fighting the housing crisis is therefore one of her priorities. However, thanks to her studies, she also wants to focus on the judicial system. Similarly, healthcare and digitalisation are important issues for her.

Braz now eagerly waits to see how her everyday life will change due to the work on the Esch council and in parliament. Looking toward the future, she vowed her readiness to tackle both challenges.
