Pride Week: Manner Show, méi Substanz
Mat der Pride Week, déi e Méindeg zu Lëtzebuerg ugefaangen huet, sollen d'Fuerderungen vun der LGBTQI+ Communautéit méi visibel ginn.

The focus on the pandemic hasn't made it easy for members of the community to be heard. Monica Camposeo from RTL Luxembourg spoke to Lia Lilith de Oliveira, who has been using social media to spread awareness and information on trans issues.

And it clear the public needs informing, as she still regularly meets discrimination. Just this week, she had to remove a sticker from her mailbox.
Her Instagram account Trans Educatioun Lëtzebuerg, started two weeks ago, provides an overview of trans terms and the problems the community faces in Luxembourg. An example is health insurance.

De Oliveira described it thus: "You are being psychopathologised. You are required to get a diagnosis of gender dysphoria, but there are very few psychiatrists in the country who are even trained on this. Then you have to fill in the required form in a very specific way or you may get your treatment refused by the CNS."

On top of this, there are still laws discriminating against LGBTQIA+ people in Luxembourg.

Andy Maar from Rosa Lëtzebuerg added: "If a lesbian couple wants to start a family and one of the women carries the child, the other woman isn't automatically considered the second mother. She has to go through the adoption process, which takes a while. If something were to happen to the biological mother during that time, then the second mother would not have all the necessary rights to properly look after the child."

With film showings and live discussions, this year's Pride Week aims to raise awareness for these kinds of situations faced by the community. Unlike last year, it isn't fully online.

Too often, the visible aspect of Pride is reduced to colourful parades with elaborate costumes.
De Oliveira said: "I am glad there is a debate happening at the theatre in Esch. We have to focus more on the political and less on entertainment. Like two years ago during Trans Day of Rememberance, there was a trans man sharing his experience, and the trans woman was just doing a show. We have to get away from that."

This is one of the reasons she is active on social media. By raising awareness and providing information, she hopes to one day be able to live her life free of discrimination.
