For the second time in days, the legal profession mourns the loss of one of its most renowned figures.

Luxembourger Jim Penning dedicated over 60 years to practising civil and business law. He established his law office in 1966 after completing his studies in Paris.

Maître Jim Penning was much more than a lawyer. Like Gaston Vogel, he had a deep passion for people, art, and Asian culture. A multilingual individual who also spoke Hindi, Penning served as the Indian Consul General for the Grand Duchy for over 15 years and founded the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Luxembourg.

A devoted music lover and philanthropist, Penning co-founded the Blues and Jazz Club, headquartered at Sang a Klang in Pfaffenthal. He also served for many years on the board of the Echternach Festival and was a board member of Handicap International.

Penning was also an ardent admirer of Franz Liszt. As a member of the Liszt Society, he gave lectures on the composer and even campaigned to have a statue of Liszt erected in the city, as Liszt gave his final concert at the City Casino.
