Tuesday will mark the first public debate of the new legislative period, and on the agenda is a public petition that has gathered the necessary support to be presented to lawmakers in the Chamber of Deputies.
The proposal in question suggests awarding compensation to parents who opt to reduce their work hours to care for their children. In concrete terms, the petition argues that a parent should have the right to work fewer hours with the help of the government to have more time with their children, which in return would help prevent daycares from being overcrowded.
4,720 people signed the proposal in spring last year. However, due to the general elections, all petitions eligible for debate in the Chamber were put on hold until a new government had formed.
