After its shows in Remich, the French circus was slated to set up its tents in Kayl this week. Despite assurances that it would perform without animals, it has now seen its permit revoked. The municipality expressed its disapproval, citing concerns over the organisation’s conduct and operations.
Just last week, veterinary authorities had to intervene in response to the group’s performance in Remich, which featured exotic animals such as camels, llamas, and dromedaries. Two violations came to light: firstly, the French circus lacked the required permit to feature animals in its acts, and secondly, performing with exotic animals is prohibited in Luxembourg.
These issues came to the forefront when passersby noticed the animals lying in the parking lot of the Remich swimming pool. Following this, animal rights advocate Daniel Frères reported the matter to the municipality and the veterinary authorities, which ultimately decided that the animals had to leave the country.
