The Alternative Democratic Reform Party (adr) swiftly identified Dan Hardy as the replacement for newly elected MEP Fernand Kartheiser in the Chamber of Deputies. Similarly, the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV) will see a new face joining their ranks as a result of Hansen’s departure for the European Parliament.
In an interview with our colleagues from RTL.lu, Jean-Paul Schaaf confirmed that he will replace MEP Christophe Hansen in the Chamber of Deputies. Schaaf, a long-time mayor of Ettelbruck and current member of its municipal executive board, secured the 6th position on the CSV list in northern Luxembourg during the last legislative elections.
This will mark Jean-Paul Schaaf’s return to the Chamber of Deputies, having previously served from 2004 to 2013 and from 2020 to 2023, albeit never through direct election. On the first occasion, Schaaf took over the seat of another elected member because the CSV was in the majority and a number of elected members had joined the government.
In 2020, Schaaf succeeded Marco Schank after the latter retired from politics, and now, he will assume the seat vacated by Christophe Hansen, who is bound for Strasbourg.
The Chamber of Deputies’ final public session before summer recess is slated for 11 July. Dan Hardy and Jean-Paul Schaaf are anticipated to be sworn in as MPs on that day, following the resignation of Fernand Kartheiser and Christophe Hansen. Meanwhile, the newly elected European Parliament is set to convene for its inaugural session from 16 to 19 July.
