It did not come as a surprise that the amount of online orders increased in December, a phenomenon that has seen a steady increase for the past years. With the health crisis continuing, however, January has seen little decline in the number of deliveries, although the month is usually reserved for Christmas returns.
Michel Billert, head of the package sorting plant in Bettembourg, noted that demands from foreign partners have remained elevated since the beginning of the pandemic. It is expected that this January's deliveries will exceed the usual rates by 30-40%, which is why more employees have been hired on all levels.
The online platform Letzshop has helped fuel the overall increase in parcel orders, as has the limitation on supermarkets to only provide essential goods. In 2020, Letzshop gained around 200 new business providers, mounting the total to more than 500.
