Last Friday, the Ministry of Education received allegations against the crèche in Pétange via its official complaints service. The nature of these allegations was so severe that the Ministry immediately informed the public prosecutor’s office.

After further complaints, nine in total, the Ministry decided to cancel the nursery’s accreditation on Wednesday evening.

This is not the first time the Ministry has received complaints about the “Dramland” nursery – two years ago, three complaints were submitted which were followed up by an investigation. The nursery was issued with a fine but there was no suspension of its accreditation.

Violence against children

Over the last few days the public prosecutor’s office has received a number of complaints via the education ministry, with reports of potential intentional assault and injury against children under the age of 14. An investigating judge subsequently ordered a search and seizure of the nursery’s premises and headquarters. On Wednesday, the nursery was closed due to the investigation.

The nursery opened in spring 2022. Thirty-two children between the ages of 0 and 4 were looked after on the premises. The children will now be moved to other childcare facilities in the same municipality by the education ministry in order to guarantee their care.
