As a result of these checks, the ITM issued six work stoppages against construction and civil engineering companies that were working without derogations.

The ITM also issued two 48-hour work stoppages and one extension against companies for non-compliance with health and safety regulations. Eight construction sites were closed for the same reason.

In addition, "six work stoppages were pronounced against six employers who, in total, employed ten illegal third-country nationals, respectively without work permits", the ITM said in a statement. Two employers were fined for illegally employing one or more illegally staying third-country nationals. The fines amounted to €2,500 and €7,500 respectively.

As the number of checks carried out by the ITM in 2021 is lower compared to 2020, so is the number of offences detected. In 2020, 129 offences were detected in 283 checks.
