Luxembourg police have called upon Instagram users to vote on Friday for the locations for the upcoming speed checks, with two towns per region (north, southwest, central-eastern Luxembourg and the capital).
The “Speedmarathon” will take place on Friday 21 April and forms part of a Europe-wide campaign “Speed” on raising awareness of the risks relating to speeding. Increased speed checks will be carried out on roads throughout the country, especially during rush hours. Speeding is the main cause of fatal traffic accidents in Luxembourg, according to the police.
The campaign will last for 24 hours and will take place across multiple countries under the supervision of Roadpol (European Roads Policing Network).
The Grand Ducal police will continue to raise awareness on social networks such as Twitter and Instagram, using the @policelux account. More information can also be found under the #speedmarathon hashtag.
In a press release, the police said: “In order to increase the possibilities of interaction and thus increase the scope of the awareness-raising action, citizens will have the possibility of voting for localities of potential controls to be carried out within the framework of the “Speedmarathon”.
This is why, on April 14, 2023, we are offering Internet users the option on our Instagram account @policelux to choose between two possible sites by Police region.”
