The large-scale police operation in the Gare district on Thursday targeted local bars and cafés, with officers aiming to check whether establishments were abiding by the law and to identify potential drug or immigration offences.
During checks in a bar on Rue Joseph Junck, a police sniffer dog alerted officers to several individuals, prompting more thorough searches. One person was found carrying a firearm and a significant amount of cash. Subsequent investigations revealed that the weapon had been stolen. The public prosecutor ordered the suspect's arrest, and on Friday morning the individual was brought before an investigating judge.
Other people found in possession of drugs during the operation were formally reported by police.
In total, 24 officers took part in the operation, including a member of the canine unit.
