Shortly thereafter, Gautier was hospitalised in Nancy, where he spent six months being treated in a sterile hospital room.
“There, he received his first round of chemotherapy. He was extremely vulnerable, so we were not allowed to eat near him, sleep next to him or even kiss him. At only 2 years old my little angel slept all on his own,” explained Anne-Sophie Rust, Gautier’s mother.
For the Rust-Buisine family, the nightmare began in December 2021. Gautier had only turned 2 years old just three months before, when his parents discovered a bump on the roof of his mouth. After several consultations and a biopsy, the family received the devastating news that Gautier has been diagnosed with leukaemia.
For one year and a half, Gautier fought bravely through several rounds of treatments, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, remissions and recurrences.
After experiencing the toughest of battles with small pockets of happiness too, Gautier sadly lost his fight against cancer last August. His mother Anne-Marie now hopes to share his story to shed light on cancer research for children.
This is one of numerous stories shared during the Télévie fundraising campaign, that has been donating money to cancer research in Luxembourg. Every year, a telethon is broadcasted across all RTL Platforms, including RTL Today.
