According to police, officers intervened after receiving a report of a suspicious van in Soleuvre. Information obtained by officers revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen in France in mid-December.
Police subsequently stated that three people “dressed in black and wearing hoods” were seen in the vehicle, before driving off in the direction of Metzerlach.
At the intersection of Rue de Differdange and Rue de Belvaux, the van collided with a police car. Instead of stopping, the driver continued driving in the direction of Belvaux. The driver eventually lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a wall in the Rue de l’Électricité.
At the scene, officers apprehended two of the three occupants. While trying to flee, the third was pinned between the wall and the van. He was rescued by the police officers and arrested. The victim received first aid on the spot and was taken to hospital.
The driver of the van was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident. The police also found a blank pistol in the van.
The Luxembourg public prosecutor’s office ordered the confiscation of the van. Criminal charges were filed for rebellion against officers, illegal possession of weapons and violations of the road traffic regulations.
