Idle since JanuaryHealth Minister vows Cloche d'Or radiology centre resolution by year-end

Deadlocked rate discussions between the CNS and Hôpitaux Robert Schuman have left a state-of-the-art radiology centre unused since January, despite the facility's potential to slash medical imaging wait times.

A fully equipped radiology centre in Cloche d’Or has remained idle since January 2025 due to stalled reimbursement rate negotiations between the Hôpitaux Robert Schuman Foundation and the National Health Fund (CNS).

Health Minister Martine Deprez stated Tuesday that an agreement should be reached by year’s end, potentially easing the significant MRI wait times of 2–4 months.

The facility, pre-funded by the Foundation with €3 million, features MRI, CT scanners, and X-ray machines. Unlike the operational CHL radiology site in Potaschberg/Grevenmacher – a hospital annex operating since 2023 – the Cloche d’Or centre constitutes an independent “additional site” of Hôpitaux Robert Schuman, requiring separate rate negotiations under different financial regulations.

During her Tuesday site visit, Minister Deprez expressed optimism about resolving the two-year deadlock. “Patient costs will remain fully reimbursable regardless of location”, she assured, noting appointments would be centrally managed by Hôpitaux Robert Schuman once operational.

Dr Marc Berna, the hospital’s director general, anticipates the new centre could eventually reduce MRI wait times to 14 days or less. “This becomes an organisational challenge once we achieve adequate capacity”, Berna explained, confirming staffing and operational readiness. The hospital now awaits progress in ongoing talks between the CNS and Federation of Luxembourg Hospitals (FHL).

The CNS has announced it will issue a formal statement on the matter in mid-June.
