On Tuesday afternoon, Ukrainian Parliament Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk became the first foreign legislative leader to deliver an address in Luxembourg’s Chamber of Deputies. The unprecedented event marked a symbolic demonstration of solidarity with war-torn Ukraine.
Chamber President Claude Wiseler emphasised the significance of Ukraine’s parliament maintaining operations despite wartime conditions. “Their continued functioning amid explosions, attacks, and daily casualties is remarkable,” Wiseler stated.
In his historic address, Stefanchuk expressed profound gratitude for Luxembourg’s assistance throughout Russia’s invasion while drawing parallels between the nations. He notably referenced Luxembourg’s national motto “Mir wëlle bleiwen wat mir sinn” (“We want to remain what we are”) as having been adopted in spirit by Ukrainians defending their sovereignty.
The Ukrainian leader emphasised three key priorities for ongoing support: continued increase of international pressure on Russia, sustained Luxembourgish backing for Ukraine’s EU and NATO membership bids, and further military and humanitarian assistance.
