This year’s civil service budget amounts to roughly one billion euros - a 47 million euro increase on 2023. The majority of this expense is allocated to the pension fund, currently standing at around 904.3 million euros, or an 11 million euro increase on last year.
As it stands, 14,000 former civil servants receive a pension from the state. This is roughly 4,000 people more than in 2015 and 12,000 more than in 2020.
Over the course of the coming year, the State plans to employ another 1,500 new people, Wilmes confirmed on Thursday to the parliamentary committee for the civil service. These positions include 750 posts for education, 90 for the police, 52 for the army and 570 for the ministries.
