Vietnamese car manufacturer VinFast has been making vehicles in modern fashion since 2017. More than 1,000 robots are in charge of operating the Hai Phong manufacturing site where 90% of work is completed in automated manner.

VinFast was one of the first car manufacturers to decide on only making electric vehicles. By now, the company has an array of fully electric products, ranging from scooters to buses. Ministers Bettel and Delles were able to test some of them during their recent visit of the plant.

Thanks to a focus on design an manufacturing efficiency, VinFast is already the number one seller of electric scooters in Vietnam. The company’s SUV V8 has also been dubbed a success since entering the market.

According to VinFast’s deputy CEO Michael Johnson, the company is now looking to expand its operations beyond Asia and North America to establish a position in Europe. There are already 13 branches in Germany, France, and the Netherlands where people can preorder a vehicle.

PM Bettel said that Luxembourg would be happy to welcome such an innovative manufacturer in the future.

The Grand Duchy currently has the second most public electric charging stations in Europe at a rate of 58 units per 100 kilometres. Only the Netherlands has more. Last year, 43% of new vehicles sold in Luxembourg were electric or hybrid.
