
On Monday afternoon, a 25-year-old Algerian national was arrested by the German Federal Police on a train between Trier and Wasserbillig.
The Luxembourg National Railway Company (CFL) confirmed that the train belonged to its fleet.
In a press release, the Trier federal police stated that the individual was detained during routine checks aboard the train.
The 25-year-old was wanted under an arrest warrant and is accused of committing three shoplifting offences between July and August 2024. Authorities suspect the individual stole clothes and perfume valued at over €720 from stores in Trier.
Following the arrest, the suspect was presented before an examining magistrate and subsequently transferred to Trier prison.
According to a German police spokesperson, the individual was stopped between Trier and Igel. The German Federal Police can only conduct such checks within the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany.
