PétangeFunding approved for youth social services

The Chamber of Deputies approved a draft bill for services in Pétange. The project, which includes a number of overdue services, should cost a maximum of 100 million euros.

The planned facilities offered will include the first national nursery, a psychotherapeutic boarding school and therapeutic and administrative services within a day care centre. They will span a total of 21,000 square meters, with nine different buildings spread over two sites in the centre of Pétange. The associated budget bill was voted unanimously on Thursday.

The safety and interests of the child will be at the centre of these structures, which will welcome primarily young people placed by the juvenile judge. A strong collaboration between the courts and the care services will ensure that children and young people from underprivileged backgrounds "can gather their forces and get a start into a better future", said the MP Dan Biancalana (LSAP).

Housing for people with autism or a disability are also part of the plans, as well as a health centre, a social café and collective facilities for sports and rehabilitation. While all MPs agreed on the necessity of these services, some lamented the building delay and its limited capacities from the day of opening.
