A lane closure due to a hole in the tarmac caused significant traffic delays on the A1 motorway on Friday morning. According to the Motorway Traffic Control and Information Service (CITA), tailbacks extended at least seven kilometres by 6.30am.
The congestion affected vehicles travelling in the direction toward Trier, with queues stretching back to the Croix de Gasperich. Authorities said the poor weather conditions made it difficult for their teams to fix the hole immediately.
Motorists were advised to exercise caution in the affected area. Drivers should avoid sudden lane changes, refrain from emergency braking, and maintain a safe following distance.
