Unpaid invoicesFrench energy giant EDF cuts power to CFL

Being a national rail line does not protect you from invoicing snafu: CFL had their power cut off at their train stations in Volmerange-lès-Mines and Audun-le-Tiche.

Both French stations were without power for several days, plunging the platforms into darkness. The cause: unpaid invoices due to a wrong biling address! This was confirmed by the Minister for Mobility François Bausch.

A change in the contract with the energy provider EDF led to the invoices being sent to the wrong address. Unable to reach their customer, EDF simply cut the power. In addition to the lack of lighting, the electric ticketing machines were also out of power at the two stations managed by the CFL.

To top it all off, EDF’s customer service line was “hard to reach from abroad”. A French CFL worker ended up contacting the provider from his personal phone number.

The problem was fixed within two days and no complaint or incident was reported, confirmed François Bausch.
