On Friday, the public prosecutor’s office announced that the Administrative Court had reached a conclusion regarding the alleged police violence case: four police officers, who have since been suspended from service, will face trial in a criminal court for torture. Three of them will also be sent before a correctional court for other offenses that were uncovered during the investigation. The events date back to May 20, 2023.
Police officers from a station in the Gare district had arrested a man who was intoxicated. He was taken to a detention cell, where police violence is alleged to have occurred. The four police officers were subsequently arrested and placed in pre-trial detention. However, they were released by fall of the same year.
The public prosecutor’s office specifies that the order is not a judgment, but that there are sufficient elements to refer the matter to a criminal court. Those involved have five days to appeal. As in all investigations, the presumption of innocence applies until a verdict is rendered by the court.
