On 1 October 2010, banker and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein forwarded an email to banker James ‘Jes’ Staley. The message refers to Epstein potentially meeting the Luxembourg foreign minister and a number of other representatives of several states at the time. It is not known who originally sent the email to Epstein.
Asselborn says he only heard the name Epstein when he died in his cell in 2019.
The emails exchanged between Epstein, Staley, and other bankers mainly concern business matters and meetings with public figures.

Jeffrey Epstein was convicted of extensive abuse of women, including minors. Because of his close links with a number of prominent figures, including current US President Donald Trump, Congress decided that all files relating to Epstein should be made public.
Friday was the deadline, but the US Department of Justice has been heavily criticised as many documents and images are partially or fully redacted.
The department insists it is not seeking to protect Trump, but rather the victims who may appear in the material.
The images do not automatically prove a crime, but Trump is nevertheless clearly irritated. After Epstein’s death in his cell in 2019 and after Trump became president again, Trump has repeatedly described Epstein as a “creep”. In his view, reporters should focus on his achievements as president.
Reporters, however, have not done so. Nor have the Democrats, or a number of Republicans.
