Open Letter to Luc FriedenFor a tighter intercultural coexistence

RTL Today
For the Association of immigrant workers, the topics of immigration and cultural integration were not talked about enough during the electoral campaign.

In an open letter to Luc Frieden who is presiding coalition talks, the ASTI, the association of immigrant workers, mentioned a double-edged sword.
By not bringing up immigration and migrants more, it did prevent people from being split into two sides. However, it also had the consequence that it never became a broader topic of discussion.

However, many Luxembourgers come from families with migratory backgrounds. The challenges around immigrations are thus important to many.

The ASTI regrets that among the associations invited to the coalition talks, none work with migrants. They would have liked the council for refugees of the CLEA (the liaison between all of the organisations that work with immigrants) to be invited to also state their demands to the new government.

The ASTI has gathered points that should be a part of the new government’s programme. Their demands are as follows:

  • A rapid implementation of the new law on intercultural coexistence and more projects that promote living together on a local level,
  • All of Luxembourg’s residents should be able to participate in politics,
  • More support for volunteers, since without them the intake of migrants would not be possible,
  • To prevent Europe from becoming a ‘fortress’ when it comes to immigration,
  • The creation of a single counter where all of the state actors work together to make the intake of migrants more efficient,
  • A reform of the national reception office.
