At around 6.30pm on Friday, a fire broke out at the Uerschterhaff pre-trial detention prison. According to a press release, the “efficient intervention of the prison officers on site brought the fire under control in a very short time”, with no inmates suffering injuries. However, three guards underwent routine medical checks following the incident.
Police were later deployed to the scene while prison management informed the ombudsman in their capacity as external controller of the incident. An investigation has been opened.
