
The week of 8-14 February saw a slight decrease in the number of people testing positive for Covid-19. The figure dropped from 1,140 to 1,099 (-3.6%). The number of their identified close contacts fell from 4,067 to 2,860 contacts (-30%).
Meanwhile, the number of PCR tests carried out during this period increased from 61,480 to 70,617.
As of February 14, the number of active infections stood at 2,542 (compared to 2,512 on 7 February) and the number of people cured rose from 48,816 to 49,770. The average age of people diagnosed with Covid-19 has increased slightly to 34.7 years.
11 new deaths, three less than last week, are to be deplored. The average age of those who died is 85.
In hospitals, the situation remains relatively stable, with 55 hospitalisations in normal care and 13 hospitalisations in intensive care of Covid patients confirmed for the week, against 50 and 13, respectively.
The two Covid-19 consultation centres (CCC), located in Kirchberg and Esch-sur-Alzette, have recorded a total of 7,668 visits since their opening, including 399 visits for the week of 8-14 February, a slightly lower number to the previous week (429).
For the reference period, the effective reproduction rate (RT eff) decreased slightly from 1.06% to 1.01%. A decrease can also be observed with regard to the positivity rate on all the tests carried out (prescriptions, Large Scale Testing) with 1.56% against 1.85% last week (average over the week).
Note that the positivity rate for the tests carried out on prescription, therefore for people with symptoms, decreased significantly from 3.02% to 1.79%.
The incidence rate is 176 cases per 100,000 inhabitants over 7 days. For the week of 1 February, the incidence rate was 182 cases per 100,000 inhabitants over 7 days. The incidence rate has decreased in all age groups except those aged 75 or over. In people aged 75 years, the incidence rate has remained stable. The 0-14 age group has the highest incidence rate while the 60-74 age group continues to have an incidence almost half that of the rest of the population.
2,409 people were in isolation (+ 12%) and 3,470 in quarantine (-19% compared to the previous week).
For the 1,099 new cases, the family circle remains the most frequent transmission context of COVID-19 infections with 45.6%, followed by education (9.8%), the aid and care sector (3, 5%) and work (3.4%). The percentage of positive cases for which the source is not clearly attributable has fallen to 31.1%.
A total of 5,271 vaccine doses were administered last week. 3,320 people received a 1st dose and 1,959 a 2nd. In total, as of 17 February, 19,622 people have received a first jab, with 6,296 a second.
