Rally in Luxembourg City to raise awareness about the plight of millions of women

"Non d'une femme" was the title of Wednesday's rally on Place d'Armes.

The aim of Wednesday's "Non d'une femme" rally was to raise awareness on this important issue on the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation.

Millions of women worldwide are suffering from this cruel mutilation, which is still practised in many African countries, Indonesia and different Arab regions.

Globally, about 200 million women are affected and every year, some 3 million young girls are at risk of FGM.

Fondation Follereau educates people about the issue, also in Luxembourg. Conny Reichling from Fondation Follereau explains that there are women in Luxembourg that are affected by FGM.

Even though it is not practised in Luxembourg, some residents have moved here from countries were FGM is still practised. The foundation is working on adequately supporting these women and preventing their children from suffering the same fate when returning to their country of origin.
