Reports say two motorcyclists were travelling from the direction of Germany to Luxembourg City on the A1 motorway at around 12.30am on Sunday morning.
One of the riders attempted to overtake a lorry near Flaxweiler, but was hit by another vehicle and knocked into oncoming traffic on the other side of the motorway, where it is thought he was struck by a car and another lorry.
The man suffered grievous injuries as a result and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.
The A1 was closed in both directions for several hours, re-opening again late on Sunday morning. The public prosecutor’s office has ordered an investigation into the crash.
Police are seeking any witnesses to the incident, particularly the driver of the lorry heading towards Germany which may have struck the victim. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact 113 as a matter of urgency.
