The incident occurred at 12.30am at the crossroads between Rue Michel Thilges and Avenue du 31 Aout 1942 in Wiltz town centre. The driver is said to have lost control of the car, crashing throught a wall and hitting a fence.
Both driver and passenger were treated for their injuries by paramedics at the site of the crash. However, the 57-year-old driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
A forensics team was dispatched to the site to investigate.
Earlier on Saturday evening, a car caught fire on the motorway between Lallange and Schifflange shortly after 10.00pm. However, no one was hurt in the incident.
On Sunday morning, at around half past seven, five people suffered mild injuries following a crash on the motorway heading towards Pétange.
