On Thursday, during its general assembly, the Family Planning Association reported a significant 46% increase in the number of abortions compared to the previous year. While this rise is concerning, the association noted a lack of clear explanations for it.

The absence of comprehensive data on abortions in Luxembourg was highlighted by the Association, which emphasised the importance of access to such information while advocating for it.

In light of recent developments in France, the association called for similar measures to be implemented in Luxembourg, requesting for the inclusion of the right to abortion in the country’s constitution.

The Association already requests that condoms be added to the range of contraceptive methods already covered by the National Health Fund (CNS) and fully reimbursed, such as contraceptive pills. Currently, condoms are available for free at the three Family Planning centres.

As of April, contraceptive methods have been reimbursed. Costs amounted to 4.3 million euros as of last year, as reported in response to a recent parliamentary question.
