The bogus email states that the person is entitled to a tax refund and should therefore provide their account number. But on closer inspection, the address used to send the message is “guichet@comgouv.lu”, an address that has nothing to do with the official government services.

The police also reported on Friday evening that they had received several reports from residents who had received text messages or emails from someone pretending to be an administration, a bank, or the post office.
Guichet.lu urges all users to be extra cautious, to always double-check the address used to send the e-mail, and to remember that sensitive or confidential data should never be shared over e-mail or SMS.
It is also recommended to make elderly people aware of this type of fraudulent practice so that they do not fall victim to it.
