Agriculture'Fair Meat' label to improve quality and price standards

RTL Today
Similar to the 'Fair Milk' label, the new initiative is designed to help Luxembourgish farmers market their meat products at fair prices and quality standards.

In 2009, Luxembourg’s dairy farmers decided to pour milk over their fields in protest against the extremely low prices at the time. As a result, the ‘Fair Milk’ label was created, which has since then helped farmers market a selection of 16 dairy products at fair prices and quality standards.

A ‘Fair Meat’ label has now been created with the aspiration of setting similar standards for meat farmers. A special committee is in charge of coordinating the 20 participating businesses, which run operations of various sizes.

The new label was officially introduced at a farm in Mullendorf on Monday in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture, Viticulture and Rural Development Claude Haagen.
