The Maison du Grand-Duc recently published its second annual report, detailing the court’s activities and finances. According to the report, staff satisfaction has increased.
The report primarily features photographs of the Grand Duke, along with other prominent figures like Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and other members of the Grand Ducal family.
Since the Waringo Report, the new administration has focused on establishing a structured organisation and enhancing transparency in financial matters.
The previous report had notably highlighted issues in the relationship between the Grand Duchess and the staff. However, an external auditor has now concluded that the situation has improved.
“It is evident that the Maison du Grand-Duc has benefited from recent reorganisations, resulting in an improved quality of working life for the staff. The acknowledgment and discussion of past problems have fostered a strong sense of commitment and improved overall job satisfaction,” according to auditing firm Etincelles.
While the auditor has made recommendations, they also noted that none of the factors identified are in any way “urgent” or “severe.” Among the areas requiring clarification is the functioning of the management line, and there is a need for “improved top-down communication.”
Regarding finances, the Maison du Grand-Duc reported expenses of approximately €15.6 million. Personnel costs for the 104 employees constituted the largest expenditure, totalling around €10.5 million.
In addition, there were operational expenses for administration, maintenance, and building investments. The Court also experienced an increase in energy costs last year, with heating oil and water bills reaching nearly €1 million.
In the context of constitutional reform, discussions have arisen concerning the role of the Grand Duchess. In the public activities chronology at the Court, it is revealed that Maria Teresa engaged in official duties for the Court on 52 days in 2022.
These included participation in National Day celebrations, a state visit to Portugal, interviews with media outlets such as “Vox Feminina” and the SWR programme “Wunderschön,” as well as five visits to exhibitions associated with the Esch 2022 Year of Culture, which took place under her high patronage.
