The good news is that the capital should remain accessible throughout the day until shortly before the race starts at 7 pm on the Luxexpo car park. Nonetheless, it is worth noting that various parts of town will be closed to traffic until the last runner has passed.

Considering the marathon tends to attract around 100,000 spectators and 17,000 runners into town, the City of Luxembourg assures arrangements are in place to ease circulation as much as possible. 44 crossing points are planned to enable motorists to drive in and out of the affected areas.

In town by car?

If you are in town by car, you are advised to use one of the park-and-ride facilities on Bouillon and Luxembourg-Sud, where parking is free for 24 hours. Free shuttles will operate every ten to fifteen minutes from midday until 3 am to Glacis.

From there, you can continue your journey to Kirchberg using the tram which will run all day except from 7.20 pm to 9.15 pm, when neither the Faïencerie nor Théâtre stops will be served.
For those who will be near the central station area after the marathon has ended, the bus lines 5, 10, 11 and 20 will temporarily stop at Gare Centrale/ rue de Hollerich Quai 2 and return to the Bouillon P+R between 12.25 am and 1.25 am.

If you were planning to try your luck looking for a parking space in the streets of the capital, you should be aware of the occasional closures. The City of Luxembourg reminds that parking along the marathon route is allowed except in a few places “where specific signs will be put in place”.

Please note that if you decide to park near the race route, you may not be allowed to move your vehicle during the race.

... by public transport?

If you’re planning on commuting into town by public transport, you should be aware that the regular bus network will operate as per usual until 7 pm. For those passing through either Limpertsberg or Kirchberg, busses cease to operate normally at around 4 pm.
From that cut-off, connections between the central station and the city centre will be suspended for all bus lines. Details of the lines can be found here. The “City Shopping Bus” lines will be closed throughout the day.

As for the tram, it will run normally until 7 pm with a total cut-off for the Faïencerie and Théâtre stops between 7.20 and 9.15 pm. The last departure from Luxexpo will be at 2.30 am and Bonnevoie at 3.06 am.

As for trains, no changes have been announced.

It is also worth noting that a hotline has been set up to allow residents and spectators to obtain more information about public transport. It will be available from 8 am until the end of the marathon by dialling 4796-3846.

If you’re cycling into town, please take extra precautions as the streets are expected to be crowded from the afternoon until late in the evening.

The vel’Oh rental service will remain accessible apart from the Knuedler and Schuman roundabout stations which will be closed from 9 am on Saturday until 8 am on Sunday.
