Haagen met with the managers of the Ettelbruck facility on Friday, following Cobolux’s recent announcement to close down their Wecker facility at the end of the year due to shifting market dynamics.
The minister said it was important to keep a functioning abattoir in Luxembourg to reduce travel distance to and from the farms, with a focus on animal welfare.
The Agriculture Act would permit the ministry to co-finance investments if required in Ettelbruck, in order to reduce the country’s reliance on foreign facilities.
